Reading Specialist Overview

The primary responsibilities of the reading specialists are to support the school’s reading and writing programs through training, coaching, collaboration, co-teaching, and intervention.  As trainers and coaches, they deliver various literacy based professional development to the staff and follow up with co-planning, observations, and reflective conferences.  As a co-teacher, they work alongside staff in classrooms delivering whole class minilessons followed by individual or small group instruction to meet the needs of all students.  If students are identified in need of additional reading support, they assess, analyze data and teach intervention groups that target specific reading skills through a multi-tiered system of support.

Please feel free to contact the reading specialists at Ashburn if you have any questions about your child's literacy development or the reading and writing programs.
