Return to School Planning

Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year!

We are thrilled to welcome LCPS students and their families to another great year of learning and engagement. Your student’s teachers and all LCPS staff members have been working hard to prepare for this day. While the school year is new, our mission and vision remain the same: to support each student in achieving their full potential and being empowered to make meaningful contributions to the world.

This year our staff returns to school eager to meet your children and support them on their academic journey. We place students at the center of our work, and everyone at LCPS maintains a commitment to helping students achieve their potential. This year we are pleased to launch two new programs in our schools: Dual Language Immersion program at Potowmack and Sanders Corners elementary schools and Pre-International Baccalaureate program at Heritage and Loudoun Valley high schools. These programs, in addition to LCPS’ current slate of engaging and rigorous academic offerings, ensure that our division continues to expand and adapt to the needs of our students and community.

This school year is also a special one as, starting Sept. 1, LCPS will have a new superintendent, Dr. Aaron Spence. He served as superintendent for the past nine years in Virginia Beach City Public Schools, during which time he was awarded the Virginia Superintendent of the Year by the Virginia Association of School Superintendents.  Dr. Spence will provide LCPS with exceptional guidance and leadership and we look forward to welcoming him to Loudoun County.

Thank you for your trust and support as I served as Acting Superintendent for the past nine months. It has been an honor and privilege to work alongside our amazing educators, staff and committed community.

As always, the Office of the Superintendent and all of the LCPS staff are eager to connect with our community and support LCPS families in the education of our students. We hope you will see LCPS as your partner in this process and connect with us to help ensure the Division grows and improves to support you and the students.

Daniel Smith, Ed.D.
Acting Superintendent
