Our mission is to make all community members feel welcome and safe in the library, while collaborating with colleagues on engaging lessons and fostering in students a lifelong love of reading and learning.
Checkout Policy:
K-1st: Students are permitted to check out 1 book each week and return it the following week for a new one. The book cart will be visiting their room for check out only every other week.
2nd: Students are allowed to check out 2 books every other week when they have library.
3rd- 5th: Students are allowed to check out up to 3 books at a time during their library classes.
* The library is always open for open checkout, so students in grades 2nd-5th are welcome anytime throughout the day with their teacher’s permission to come return their books and checkout new ones between their library classes.*
Overdue Policy:
Students are encouraged to return their books each time they have library class so they can check out new ones. There are no fines for overdue books that have only been missing for up to two weeks past their due date.
Students who forget their books may not check out any more books until they have either returned their old ones, or have had a conversation with the librarians about their lost books. Notices can be requested or sent home for any overdue or missing books.
We make every effort to have students and families locate missing books prior to charging you for its replacement. If you are unable to locate a book, please contact one of the librarians and we will make an effort to work with you to get the situation resolved.
Birthday Book Program:
The Birthday Book Club is open for enrollment until the end of September each year. For just $20, your child is invited to the library during their birthday month to select a brand new book to be donated to our library in their honor. The book they choose will receive a special name plate inside the front cover bearing your child’s name. They are then the first person to get to check out that new book. Once the book is returned, it will remain part of the Dominion Trail’s Library collection for other students to get to check out and enjoy.
The children love seeing their name in our books and it’s a great way to honor our students both past and present in our library!
