The mission of the Hovatter Instructional Technology Department
is to empower students to make meaningful contributions to the world.  It is our belief technology can both support and enhance learning! We strive to find a balance of hands on learning, rich in collaboration and creativity, with and without technology.

Individual Learning Devices and LCPS Model

Hovatter students in grades 3-5 will be utilizing a student learning device during theschool year.  Students transferring from a LCPS school will bring and utilize the device previously issued.  Students new to Hovatter will receive their devices at the onset of the school year.  Hovatter teachers work to provide a variety of learning formats and limit screen time. Hardware, Robotics, Coding, and 3D Printing

Through support of our Computer Science department, DDI, the PTA, grants, and business partnerships the following equipment is available for students and teachers to utilize:

  • HummingBird Microbit Circuitry Kits

  • BeeBot robots

  • Root Robots

  • Ozobot robotics

  • iPad Mobile Labs 

  • Podcasting Microphones

  • Podcasting Studio

  • Lego Robotics

Software

Hovatter students have access to a full compliment of productivity software and digital content through school or district subscriptions.  In addition, the Hovatter network contains subject specific software for music, science, language arts, math and social science as well as subscriptions to research sites.  Online resources are available through LCPSGo

Computer Science Standards

Virginia, First in the Country to Adopt Computer Science Standards

Beginning in 2019 teachers began to integrate the Computer Science Standards througout their lessons when appropriate.  Mrs. Tyree and Mrs. Buss will support teachers in their planning and delivery of these lessons.
