Playing Sports at Heritage High School
Think you have what it takes to play a sport at Heritage High School?
There will be a Heritage Sports Meeting at Harper Park each spring. The date will be announced in May at HPMS. Current 8th Grade students should attend with a Parent.
Here are a few things to do if you want to play sports in high school.
1. Contact the coach of the sport you want to play before you actually go to high school, probably toward the end of your 8th-grade year. Tell him/her you are interested and ask if there is anything you need to be doing now that will help you to make the team. Ask about any summer camps or training that you need to do. Click on the link to go to HHS webpage to find the coach of your sport.
Did you know that we have a few Heritage coaches that work here?
Mr. Weaver is a football coach.
Mr. Hawley was a cross country coach.
2. Do well in school now. You must keep your grades up to play sports in high school or even college.
3. Practice. Practice. Practice.
4. Attend camps during the summer.
5. Surround yourself with others who make good choices and will be people who will help you achieve your goals, not influence you to make poor choices.
6. Find a buddy or partner to work out and practice with.
7. Set specific goals. Set a long-term goal first, then smaller short-term goals to help you reach your long-term goal. As you reach your short-term goals, continue to make your short-term goals harder until you reach your long-term goal. Having a friend or someone to work with and support will help you with your goals.
8. VERY IMPORTANT - MOST FALL SEASON TEAMS OFFICIALLY START THE VERY FIRST MONDAY IN AUGUST - DO NOT SCHEDULE VACATIONS DURING JUNE-JULY-AUG-SEPT-OCT-NOV for fall sports (Volleyball, Cross Country, Football, Cheer) - Attend workouts and camps with the team during the summer.
