Harper Park Middle School Counselors Vision Statement

Our students will grow to be altruistic, empathetic, motivated, and compassionate contributors to their community. With a growth mindset, they will be resilient and persevere through life’s challenges. Students will be forward-looking leaders who value the importance of authentic teamwork, inclusion, kinship, and service to others for the greater good. Our students will transition toward post-secondary experiences with dignity and self-worth, a sense of responsibility for one’s choices, and the ability to be successful in college and their career. 

Harper Park Middle School Counselors Mission Statement

The Harper Park Middle School Counseling Department will work to develop confident learners who fully embrace a growth mindset. We will provide a safe, nurturing, and equitable environment to meet the individual needs of students as we strive to best support students' academic, social/emotional, and college/career needs in order to help support students to become lifelong learners.  We commit to collaborating with students, parents/guardians, staff, and community stakeholders to provide a comprehensive school counseling program. Our program will be data-driven and developmentally appropriate, enabling all students to be successful and develop into resilient adults.

Counseling hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 until 3:30. Please call ahead for an appointment, if you wish to visit. 

Special Programs

  • Academies of Loudoun (ACL): LCPS Science and Technology Specialty Schools, listed below. Students apply during the Fall of their 8th grade year and, if accepted, attend ACL every other day, while attending their home high school on the opposite days.

  • Career Exploration: Students explore their own interests, strengths, values and their relationship to the world of work.

  • Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology: Counselors coordinate the application process for 8th graders interested in the magnet school in Alexandria, Virginia.

  • Student Assistance Services: Interested students, with parental permission, may seek guidance from a representative of Loudoun County Mental Health Services.

  • Substance Abuse Referrals: Students with potential alcohol/drug abuse may be referred for educational services.

  • Student Recognition Activities: Counselors recognize the many achievements of students quarterly.

  • Mistreatment/Bullying Prevention: Students in each grade receive instruction on recognizing and preventing aggressive/harassing behaviors. Counselors maintain an online mistreatment reporting form, where kids can report acts of mistreatment in order to get help with the situation.

  • Parent Workshops/Coffees: Throughout the year we will host workshops on a variety of topics that are helpful to parents as they navigate the teen and pre-teen years. Check out the School Counseling site for dates, as well as pay attention to your email. We will send out invitations via email.
