The vision of the Loudoun County Public Schools Elementary Reading & Writing office is to provide every student with high-quality, evidence-based literacy instruction necessary to become life-long readers, writers, and communicators, while maintaining our uncompromising dedication to deeper learning as outlined in the LCPS Profile of a Graduate. Literacy instruction in LCPS is based on a comprehensive approach that supports the Virginia State Standards of Learning, is aligned with current research on how children learn to read and write, and is guided by the LCPS Culturally Responsive Framework, which ensures a welcoming, inclusive, and affirming environment for all; inclusive curriculum and assessment practices; and engagement and challenge through deeper learning for all students.
Loudoun County utilizes a structured literacy approach to provide explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, written expression, and oral language.
