Michael Burd

It is with great excitement that I write to you as the new principal of Rolling Ridge Elementary School for the 2023-2024 school year. Most recently, I was a principal in Montgomery County Public Schools for five years. I have also served as a principal intern for one year, assistant principal for seven years, and a teacher for five years. I was very fortunate to grow up in a family and a community where I felt seen and valued in northeast Pennsylvania. My experiences growing up and as an educator have shaped my “Why” and purpose in everything I do. I want every child to feel the way in school that I did in my community and my family. I want every child to feel like they belong and that they have someone they can go to in the building. That has been part of the mission at my former school since I started there 5 years ago and since I became an educator. I genuinely believe every student can and should be successful. My goal, wherever I work, is to ensure this belief is understood by all and that we work collectively to provide students with a quality education which allows them to achieve at high levels.

As I previously mentioned, I grew up in a small town in northeastern Pennsylvania called Williamsport. It is the home of the Little League World Series. Currently, I live in Frederick County, Maryland with my daughter Chloe. Chloe is nine years and will be entering fourth grade next year. We love to go on walks, go to parks, swimming, eating, creating art, listening to music, spending time with friends and family, and family movie nights. I love being active, exercising, listening to podcasts, reading, eating good food, and music.

I am committed to you and your children and will work hard with the staff to support the students where they are, and help them get to the place they want to be next. I ask that we work together in creating a culture of collaboration. Collaboration that is sustained by the education, skills, talent, professionalism of our staff members and the support and guidance that you share with us. I hope that we can be an example for our students, your children, by being on the same team and working toward common goals. It is our job to unite for the success of all of our children. Go Roadrunners!
