Hello Smart's Mill Mavericks!
I’m Jodi Reeve, your 7th grade Dean, and I couldn’t be more excited to be part of this incredible community! It’s a true privilege to work alongside such dedicated staff, supportive families, and students who embody a growth mindset. As a former Smart’s Mill parent, I know firsthand how committed our community is to nurturing our students’ success.
This school year promises to be filled with growth, learning, and a strong commitment to our Maverick values. Together, we’ll embark on a wonderful journey!
My professional path began in 2000 with a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Delaware, specializing in Mathematics (Go Blue Hens!). I taught in the Brandywine School District for three years before moving to Virginia in 2003, where I spent four years in Fairfax County teaching both fifth and first grades. In 2007, I helped open Rosa Lee Carter Elementary School, teaching first grade for two years. After taking time off to be with my son, I returned to Rosa Lee Carter in 2013 to teach fifth grade. My passion for middle school led me to Trailside Middle School in 2017, where I taught Math for eight years. I hold certifications in Middle School Mathematics, Algebra 1, and recently earned my Masters in Administration from George Mason University. With over 20 years of teaching and leadership experience, I’m eager to continue making a positive impact at Smart’s Mill.
On a personal note, I’m married and have a son working at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, an 8-year-old daughter starting 3rd grade at Newton-Lee Elementary, and two step-daughters—one at William and Mary and another who graduated from Old Dominion University in 2022 and is now working at the Reston Zoo. My family enjoys traveling, exercising, cooking, spending time at the beach and the lake, and hanging out with our lovable 11-1/2 year old Vizsla, Stella.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead! Let’s make it memorable together!
