There is a growing need in the U.S. workforce for well-trained employees who are prepared with the 21st Century Skills that businesses and corporations have identified as critical for the challenges of our global economy. Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs at Freedom High School prepare today's students for their education and workplace experiences by offering quality hands-on learning in a "real-world" context.

The mission of CTE is to ensure that every graduate is prepared for the challenges of post-secondary education and the workplace. Workplace readiness skills emphasized within our CTE programs include:

• Communication

• Decision-making skills and more!

The Career & Technical Education department at Freedom High School consists of four distinct program areas:

• Business & Information Technology

• Family & Consumer Sciences

• Marketing Education

• Technology & Engineering Education

All program area classes incorporate teaching strategies that actively engage students in applying knowledge to real world scenarios. Some courses also provide laboratory learning experiences, such as working in our school store - The Perch, our well-equipped food kitchen, Little Eagles Preschool, production lab, computer labs, and more.

All students in a second level or higher CTE course are provided with opportunities to earn industry certifications aligned with the state competencies for the course at no cost to the student.  Available industry certifications include:

• W!SE Financial Literacy (Personal Finance)

• Workplace Readiness Skills (Business Law/Management, Intro to Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education I)

• Praxis I (Early Childhood Education II, Teacher Cadet II)

• Recreation, Amusements, and Attractions Assessment - NOCTI (Sports and Entertainment Marketing)

• Customer Service and Sales - NRF (Marketing)

• Business of Retail NRF (Advanced Marketing)

• Microsoft Office Specialist and Expert (ACIS)

• CompTIA IT Fundamentals (Cybersecurity Operations)

• IC3 Global Standard 6, Internet and Computer Core (Application Development I)

• PLTW End of Year Assessment (PLTW Principles of Engineering)

CTE students can also earn college credits from local colleges and universities by completing our Advanced Computer Information Systems (ACIS) or Teacher Cadet courses.  Our Application Development II students have the opportunity to also earn college credits by sitting for the AP Computer Science Principles examination at the end of the school year.
