Volunteer

Everything you do has importance. Colleges and employers are interested in how you spend your free time. Spend it volunteering for something you enjoy.

Coach a kid's sport team, teach dance, help with a youth group or the scouts, babysit, tutor, mow a neighbor's lawn, volunteer in a food pantry or a clothing giveaway, fix or rebuild computers, help at a fair or a community event, volunteer for activities at Freedom, Lunsford or your elementary school, volunteer at your place of worship- lector, sing, usher, help with events, volunteer at our Dulles Senior Center, or at a nursing home or a hospital or a fire department.

Thank you to our students who Lettered in Service in 2022-23

A total of 25,689 volunteer hours were logged

Loudoun County Public Schools does not require high school students to volunteer. To encourage our students to give back, Freedom High School recognizes those who do volunteer.

Volunteer hours start once students “graduate” from middle school; they start the summer before 9th grade and end in May of senior year.

Hours after May 1, 2023 will be counted towards the 2023-2024 Volunteer Letter of Service which will be awarded in early June 2024.

The Volunteer "log" for the 2023-2024 School Year is now open.  LCPS is now using SchooLinks, which has an option for students to enter their hours under "Experience Tracker".  For hours accrued after May 1, please enter them into SchooLinks.  For students that entered volunteer hours in previous school years, Mrs. Wood will be adding your hours to the current hours entered for this school year.  Here is the How-To Form for entering Volunteer Hours in SchooLinks.  Students must go through LCPS GO to access SchooLinks.  Parent access to SchooLinks will not allow student volunteer (Experience Tracker) entries.

It normally takes the entire four years of high school to reach 100 hours, but some students can reach it in less time. Students only letter once. Note your accomplishment on your resume and reference it in college and job applications.

If you reach 100 hours this school year, you will be recognized this June. FHS Volunteer Hours Logs were due by May 1, 2023. If students have not reached 100 hours by May this year, they will turn their hours in next year. Just keep adding them up!
