FOREST GROVE'S BULLYING PREVENTION PROGRAM

"THE 3 R'S"

Every LCPS student in grades K-5 will be taught what bullying is and how to respond to bullying behavior. Our 3 step program is called "The 3 R's."

3 STEPS TO STOP A BULLY!

  1. Recognize

  2. Report

  3. Refuse

Students are taught to first "recognize" bullying behavior by defining bullying behavior and being able to identify the difference between rude, mean, bullying, and conflict.

After students recognize bullying behavior then they are taught to "report" it to a trusted adult right away. It is everyone's responsibility to report.

As students recognize and report bullying behavior they should "refuse" bullying. Students are taught strategies to use to stand up for themselves and others. in a strong and respectful way,

Interventions for bullying behavior:

  • First Time: Teacher will complete classroom report/ bully report, notify administration, re-teach behavior expectations, phone call home.

  • Second Time: Teacher or staff member will complete level 2 referral/ bully report and a conference/phone call scheduled with school counselor, teacher, parent, and student, informal classroom behavior plan will be completed, loss of a privilege, make amends.

  • Third Time: Teacher will send student to the office an office referral (level 3 referral)/ bully report, an in-person conference scheduled with an administrator, parent, teacher, school counselor, student. Administrator will determine the consequence (this may occur the first time if the behavior is threatening or physical). Student will be referred to Tier 2 Team for formal intervention to include a modified behavior plan, make amends.

  • After Third Report: Teacher will send student to the office with an office referral (level 3 referral), administrator will contact parents, administrator will determine consequence, make amends.

*If necessary other school officials and/or law enforcement will be contacted and involved

What can you expect staff at Forest Grove to do about bullying?

  • School staff will notify an administrator or designee immediately regarding any alleged bullying behavior. Parents will be notified of the alleged bullying report within 5 days of the allegation of bullying.

  • An administrator or designee will meet with your child as the accused bully or victim to learn about the bullying behavior. They may need to develop a plan to help keep your child safe, and/or a behavior plan to stop the bullying behavior. Staff will assure your child as the victim that they will work hard to see that the bullying stops.

  • Give the school reasonable time to investigate and hear both sides of the story. Sometimes, a child who bullies will make false allegations about a child as an additional way of bullying them. Staff should not jump to hasty conclusions and assign blame without a thorough assessment of the situation. The issue will be resolved as soon as possible. (www.stopbullyingnow.com)
