Learning Lab

Technology At Liberty Elementary

At Liberty Elementary, the use of technology is fully integrated into your child's academic day. Throughout the school year, students will engage in a variety of technology-rich learning activities that align with Virginia Standards of Learning and International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) standards. Teachers work alongside the Instructional Facilitator of Technology (IFT) to collaborate, design, and implement high-quality instruction that amplifys student learning.

What is Learning Lab?

In 2016, Liberty Elementary became one of the first schools in Loudoun County to redifine the traditional Computer Lab space adjacent to our Library. In the years since it's grand opening, the Learning Lab has continued to serve students and teachers in grades K-5 by integrating coding, robotics, digital design, movie making, 3D printing, and more. Additionally, Learning Lab experiences focus on soft skills such as team building, collaboration, creativity, problem solving, and critical thinking. At times, you may even walk by the Lab and see an unplugged lesson taking place, as we value hands-on learning and strive to model a healthy technology balance for our students.

In the 2024-2025 school year, all students will come to the Learning Lab with their class once per month. Each lesson is carefully planned and co-taught by grade-level teachers and the IFT. This collaboration and partnership ensures that the standards of learning for each grade are consistently emphasized through the meaningful integration of technology in the Learning Lab.

Digital Citizenship

Our digital landscape is ever-changing, but what remains a constant is the need for our students to learn about and practice, positive digital citizenship behaviors. Throughout the year, students will engage in direct digital citizenship lessons during Library, Guidance, and Learning Lab. However, each adult at Liberty understands that this is a shared, continuous partnership that extends well beyond those isolated lessons. We encourage families to partner with us in this practice, and engage in conversations at home about establishing a healthy balance with technology, finding safe resources/websites online, and protecting personal information. Please reach out to us at any time if you need guidance or support.

Software

Liberty students have access to a full menu of productivity software and digital content through school or district subscriptions. The Department of Instruction determines educationally relevant resources for students, taking into consideration developmental factors, age and content appropriateness, and all resources must comply with the LCPS Responsible/Acceptable Use Policy (RUP/AUP) and School Board Policies. Online resources are available to students on-demand through LCPSGo. Please visit the Department of Digital Innovation website to learn more about how LCPS protects student data and privacy.

Mrs. Faul

Mrs. Faul

Instructional Facilitator of Technology (IFT)

My name is Mrs. Faul and this will be my ninth year teaching here at Liberty. I previously taught fourth and first grade, and through those experiences I found a passion for STEM and technology integration. This will be my fifth year as the Instructional Facilitator of Technology (IFT) and I look forward to supporting students across all grade levels as we continue to dive deeper into STEM education inside the Learning Lab.

I grew up right here in Loudoun County and am a graduate of Stone Bridge High School. I continued my education at The College of William & Mary and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education and Psychology….Go Tribe! Outside of school, I enjoy cooking from scratch, wandering through Lucketts Antique Store, and keeping up with my busy Golden Retriever, Gus. I also love visiting Disney World whenever I get the chance. My husband Jon and I are looking forward to many more Disney trips in the near future, as we will be welcoming a baby girl this fall.

Please feel free to email me (paige.faul@lcps.org) if you have any questions about the Learning Lab or STEM education at Liberty!
