Family Liaison

What Is A Parent Liaison?

A Parent Liaison is a LCPS staff member, not a volunteer,  who works to bridge the communication between school and home by helping parents get the information, help, and support they need to ensure their child's academic and social success in school. A Parent Liaison is to empower parents to become active participants in the education of their children.  Confidentiality is always upheld!

Role And Mission Of The Parent Liaison

Current research emphasizes the importance of parent involvement in promoting school success. At the same time, lack of participation among parents of socially and culturally diverse students is also well-documented. Today’s families constantly deal with stress that impacts students’ abilities to participate in academic and extra-curricular school activities. If schools are to do an effective job of educating their increasingly diverse populations of students, they must find ways to communicate and build more cooperative working relationships with parents.

Parent Liaisons:

  • Facilitate parent-school communication;

  • Facilitate community agency referrals;

  • Encourage parent involvement in the school;

  • Foster trust between parents and the educational community;

  • Foster higher academic achievement through collaboration with school personnel.

The primary role of the Parent Liaison is to empower parents to become active participants in the education of their children. Targeted are those parents who:

  • need help in determining how best to help their children;

  • are infrequent participants in school activities;

  • may need clarification of their role in the educational process;

  • need assistance in making connections and accessing services;

  • associate schools with past negative experiences.

Dear Lightridge Families,

My name is Nona Hunter, and I am proud to be Lightridge High School’s Parent Liaison.  A Parent Liaison is a LCPS staff member who acts as an advocate for all students and families within the school community. They do this by connecting families with the information, resources and services they need to help with situations that may impact a student's success or a family's engagement within school with confidentially.

Previously, I served as the President of the PTA at Willard Intermediate. During that time I had the pleasure to work with staff, volunteer with many parents, and get to know students that are now at LHS. I have a student that is currently here at LHS, she  is involved in the band and the swim team.

This is a new journey for me, and I look forward to your partnership as we guide all our students to their best educational direction. I am here to help with organizing parent/staff conferences, accompany parents and guardians to meetings, help arrange for interpreters, as well as help with community  resources, such as school supplies, food, and clothing.

If your family is in need of resources or assistance, please complete this form.

In our caring community I have also found that many of you are eager to help others in times of need.  For that reason,  I would like to form Bolts Care group, whereby we can reach parents for support throughout the year, as needs arise. These Requests may include purchasing/donating an item or items, providing holiday gifts or cards, spreading the word on clothing and food drives, or donating a services.  This is a closed group, but please feel free to spread the word throughout our community. If you wish to remain anonymous in your giving, you can message me directly.   All information remains confidential in respect of the families being assisted. If you would like to be a part of Bolts Care, please complete this form.

Please feel free to contact me and let me know how I can help. My door is always open.

Sincerely,

Nona Hunter
