Sterling Elementary will continue to support our school-wide initiative—Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS).  PBIS helps to create a safe and productive learning environment so that teachers can more effectively engage students for learning.  It includes school-wide procedures and rules intended for both students and staff in all settings. This year we will be focusing on hallway behavior.  You will see these rules posted throughout the school and we encourage you to discuss this rules at home with your child.  Our Jaguar rules are as follows:

                              Be Safe

                              Be Polite

                              Be On Task

                              Be Trustworthy

Our PBIS Matrix below is used schoolwide to teach students the expectations. Students will practice these expectations consistently throughout the school day. Students will be provided with positive feedback on their behavior to create an environment that supports learning. We celebrate “SPOT" behavior with fun quarterly rewards like SPOT TROTs, staff talent shows, and the "decorate the principal and assistant principal" event (see picture below).  Monthly SPOT awards are announced on the morning news show.

You can support your student at home by encouraging their positive behavior at home as well. You can stay connected with our school and your student's class by joining the Sterling Elementary Class Dojo page! You will see regular updates from the school as well as your child's teachers. Kindness Matters!

One of our year-round focuses is spreading kindness within our school and community. In February, students worked in their Packnerships to create cards that were distributed to various groups in our local community to spread some joy. Expand and watch this brief slideshow demonstrating how kindness matters.
