School counselors support students' academic success by:

Tutoring

Parent Resource Services provides a list of Loudoun County Public School employees interested in tutoring. PRS provides contact information only and does not get involved in the fees or scheduling.View the list of tutors.

Instructions for Selecting a Tutor:

  1. Select the area in which you live.

  2. Select the grade of your child.

  3. Select the subject(s). 

    1. You may only select one area per subject.  For example, you would only be able to choose Algebra 1 and no other math subject.

    2. You may choose multiple subjects.  For example, you could choose Algebra 1 and High School English.  

  4. Select if you would like the tutor to be able to speak another language.

  5. Select if you would like a tutor who has a special education background.

If no matches are found that meet your criteria, you may need to go back to the form and select different options.

Expungements

Based on a provision of the Virginia Standards of Accreditation, 8VAC20-131-90, a middle school student who has taken a high school course while in sixth, seventh, or eighth grade (such as Algebra I, Geometry, Robotics, or a World Language) may elect to have the course expunged from the student's high school records. When a course is expunged, the grade and credit is omitted. 

Students are not required to repeat a high school-credited course that has been expunged unless it is a graduation requirement or a prerequisite needed to fulfill a graduation requirement. LCPS requires that courses taken in mathematics and world language follow a sequence of courses that include prerequisites. If a prerequisite course is expunged, the course must be repeated. Course prerequisite information can be found in the Program of Studies within the course descriptions. 

Course Progressions:

If a high school math course is expunged in 7th or 8th grade, the results will  be one of the following:

  • Student will retake the course in 8th or 9th  grade or,

  • Student will retake the course in the summer (if applicable)

If a high school world language course is expunged in 7th or 8th grade, the results will  be one of the following:

  • Student will repeat the course in 8th or 9th grade, or

  • Student can switch to a different World Language Elective, or

  • Student can switch to a different elective

  • Student can retake the course in the summer (if applicable)

Strong consideration should be given for expunging low grades in credit-bearing courses. When a middle school student receives a grade of "F" in a high school credit-bearing course, that grade and course will be expunged by school staff.  The student's grade point average and class standing will not include the grade from the expunged course, nor will the student receive a credit toward graduation for this course. This course will remain on the middle school transcript; however, the course will not appear on the high school transcript. Only credits which appear on the high school transcript will count toward a high school diploma.

If you wish to expunge the grade for a high school course taken in middle school, the expungement form must be completed and returned  to your student's school counselor or school counseling office. Please note the following:

  • All expungement requests must be submitted by the end of the first quarter, of the following school year in which the course was completed.

  • If your student is a current sixth or seventh grader, please submit the form to your student's middle school counselor.

  • If your student is a current eighth grader, please submit the form to the school counseling office of the high school they will attend.  

  • Courses taken in middle school cannot be expunged after the 1st quarter of the student’s ninth grade year.

  • Courses taken in the summer session following a student’s promotion from the eighth grade are ineligible for expungement/removal from their high school transcript.

  • Students must be enrolled in the same course they are expunging for the upcoming school year (if applicable), to successfully meet the prerequisite requirements for course sequencing.

  • Parents/Guardians must write a separate letter to expunge the corresponding SOL test.
