My name is Shaina Soderstrom and I am a passionate 1st grade teacher here at MCCS! 

I have a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Towson University and have started a master's degree with a STEAM focus.

I began my teaching career in Somerset County, MD and taught 3rd grade for 3 years and 1st grade for 5 years. My husband and two boys (now 6 and 11) then moved, and I taught 1st grade in Fairfax County, VA for 6 years. After COVID, we moved to our dream home in West Virginia, and this will now be my 4th amazing year here at MCCS!

I have dedicated my career to creating engaging and inclusive classroom environments. Throughout my journey, I have completed various trainings in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) and PBL (Project Based Learning), allowing me to incorporate innovative teaching methods into my curriculum.  I am passionate about teaching through fun, active, and engaging experiences. I work hard to fostering a love for learning as they travel on their educational adventures! 

I am excited to spend another amazing year learning, growing, and loving every minute of it!
