What is a debate competition?
Debates can involve single-member teams or teams that include several students. In a standard debate, two teams are presented with a resolution or topic, and each team has a set period of time to prepare an argument.
Who can join?
Anyone can join, but you have to be dedicated to the team. We compete from October to April in the WACFL (Washington-Arlington Catholic Forensic League) , VHSL (Virginia High School League), and NSDA (National Speech and Debate Association).
What types of debates do we participate in?
There are two types of debates we do - Public Forum Debate (partner debate format) and Lincoln-Douglas Debate (one-on-one format)
How much is it to join?
Dues are $45 per person. This cost covers the team polo shirt and offsets some of the competition costs.
When do we practice?
Mondays of each week from 8:45 a.m. - 9:15 a.m. in room 104-A and any other time we need to prepare for upcoming events. All participants have to provide their own transportation.
