Music
Welcome to Leesburg Elementary School Music!
The Loudoun County elementary music curriculum consists of a well-planned sequence of developmentally appropriate experiences leading to clearly defined skills and knowledge. The program is designed to actively involve students of all learning modalities using materials carefully selected for their aesthetic value. The Loudoun County curriculum is aligned with the National Standards for Arts Education and the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL). Students will have music once a week for 50 minutes.
In General Music class, students in grades kindergarten through five will learn many aspects of music, including singing, playing instruments, dancing, composing and improvising music, reading and notating music, describing and evaluating music performances, and understanding the relationships of music to the other arts and to disciplines outside the arts. Kindergartners and First graders will largely follow the First Steps in Music curriculum and students in 2nd-5th Grade will use Conversational Solfege as part of their music literacy work. Students in 4th and 5th grade have the opportunity to participate in additional music enrichment activities, including the Leesburg Elementary Chorus.
