School Counseling

The school counselors work with students, school staff, and parents to help students achieve their personal best.  Through classroom lessons, small groups and individual counseling, the role of the school counselor is to help students handle academic, social/emotional challenges and make the most of their school experience.

School Counseling Mission and Vision:

Through the promotion of life-long learning, student-directed, data based instruction, and a quest for achieving personal best, Guilford students are guided in instruction, led to understand strengths and challenges, and taught the importance of individual responsibility for acquiring the needed skills and resources to become successful workers and citizens for the 21st century.  A collaborative relationship among teachers, administration and the school counselor exists to ensure that all Guilford students are afforded the expertise of educators dedicated to supporting their continuous efforts to be earnest learners who recognize the value of education.  Parents and guardians of Guilford students are partners in the educational process and essential to establishing and maintaining a culture of learning at home.

The Guilford Elementary School Counseling Program should:

Hello! My name is Ana L. Castro. I am excited because this is my first year at Guilford Elementary School.

I grew up in Texas, but I have lived in Northern Virginia for the last 20 years! I graduated from the University of North Texas with two degrees; my Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Spanish and my Master's degree in School Counseling. I was a school teacher before I became a school counselor.  I am delighted to continue my counseling journey at Guildford after being in Middle School for 6 years. 

In my free time I love to run, read and work on my yoga. I have two children and a dog named Boomer! I also love to travel! I look forward to meeting all my students and families at Guilford.

Hello! My name is Megan Killian, and I am excited to be returning to Guilford this year as a full-time School Counselor! This will by my fourth year at Guilford. 

I grew up close to Richmond, Virginia, but I have lived in the Loudoun area for the past seven years. I graduated with my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from James Madison University and my Master’s degree in School Counseling from Marymount University. I previously worked in the mental health field for five years, and I am excited to be continuing my school counseling journey with Guilford!

In my free time I love spending time with my husband and our son, reading, and cooking. I also love spending as much time outdoors as I can!

I cannot wait to meet you all and get to know you this year!!
