Fifth Grade

Hello, my name is Laura Crosnicker; formerly known as Ms. Whelpley. After graduating from Cardinal Stritch University in Wisconsin with a bachelor’s in education and a minor in literacy, I decided to move to Arizona. However, I’m still a Packer fan!

Arizona is where I spent the first decade of my career teaching second, third and fourth grades. During my fifth year of teaching, I received my master’s degree in education from Northern Arizona University.  Moving to Virginia allowed me to be closer to family and now we all live in the same time zone! I met my husband here and we got married in October 2020 during the pandemic. Last year, we had our rainbow baby, Katelyn. When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with family and traveling.

This year I will be teaching fifth grade again and look forward to my 18th year of teaching and being a part of the Lowes Island Elementary School community.

I am so thrilled to be teaching my first year of 5th grade this school year at Lowes Island. This year will mark my third year of teaching. I graduated from Virginia Tech with my Master’s in Curriculum & Instruction. Go Hokies! There is so much to look forward to this school year! I am looking forward to watching your students grow and learn along the way! Make sure to check your email and Class Dojo messages often, as that is how I will communicate with you about upcoming events and reminders.

My name is Allie Verna and I am so excited to start my 10th year of teaching here at Lowes Island!

I grew up outside of Philadelphia in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. I graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Early Childhood Education and am a huge Penn State fan! I also have my Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction. In my free time, I love reading, spending time with my family and friends, and traveling.

I am so excited for another wonderful year here at Lowes Island! I can't wait to meet all of my students and families!
