Fourth Grade
Hello Lowes Island families! My name is McKenna DeMonte and I am so excited to be teaching 4th grade! This will be my third year at Lowes Island, and I love being a part of this great community. I am a graduate of Loudoun County Public Schools and I am so happy to give back to such a wonderful county that helped me on my journey to becoming your child’s teacher!
I graduated from James Madison University with both a Bachelors of Science and a Masters of Arts in Teaching. Go Dukes!
I am looking forward to meeting you all and working together to create a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment where learning, smiles, and relationships flourish!

My name is Emily Heleniak. This will be my first year in 4th grade at Lowes Island Elementary. I grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and earned my Masters Degree in Education from Drexel University. I have been in education since 2005, and have taught in three different states and in four different elementary schools. I live in the Lowes Island community with my husband and three daughters. My two older daughters, Grace and Brooke, are former Lowes Island Leopards, and now attend Dominion HS and Seneca Ridge MS. My youngest daughter, Caroline, is in 5th grade this year. When I'm not at school, you will find me coaching lacrosse, traveling with my family, camping, or relaxing with a good book.
I am so excited to start my 40th year of teaching! I graduated from Virginia Tech and earned my Master's degree from George Mason University. I have been at Lowes Island Elementary for 25 years, and all three of my sons went here too. I enjoy walking in the neighborhood, reading, cooking, and spending time with my family. I look forward to teaching a new group of students and getting to know the families as well. Here's to a great 2024-2025 school year!
