Reading

Hello! My name is Amye Love and this is my 15th year in education and my 6th year as one of the reading teachers at Lowes Island.  I am a graduate of Iowa State University and received my Masters of Education degree and Reading Certification from the University of Virginia. I love to read and hope to encourage every student to love reading as much as I do!

I am originally from Iowa and have lived in Georgia, England and Virginia.  My husband and I stay busy keeping up with each of our 3 children. My oldest son is a senior at Colorado College, my middle son attends the United States Naval Academy and my youngest daughter is a junior in high school.  I enjoy traveling, baking, reading and snuggling with our golden retriever! I look forward to a wonderful 2024-2025 school year!

Hello!  My name is Julie Saraceno and this is my 16th year in Education and my 3rd year as an itinerant Reading Specialist at Lowes Island Elementary School.  I am originally from Erie, Pennsylvania and received my undergraduate degree from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania.  I graduated with a Master of Education degree with an endorsement in Reading Education from The University of Virginia.

When I am not at school I enjoy spending time with my family.  I have a son who is a senior at Riverside High School.   My hobbies include cooking, hiking and of course reading!  I also love going on long walks with my two Labrador Retrievers, Ruby and Beau.  I'm looking forward to a great school year!

The Language Arts Program at Lowes Island

The mission of the Loudoun County Public Schools is to teach all students how to read and comprehend written text so that they may become independent readers and lifelong learners.  At the elementary level, instructional methodologies are employed to assist students in learning to read and reading to learn.

What is VALLS?

The Virginia Language and Literacy Screener, formerly known as PALS, is the state provided screening tool for Virginia's Early Intervention Reading Initiative. VALLS is administered in grades K-2. The major purpose of VALLS is to identify those students who are below grade-level expectations and may be in need of additional reading instruction.
